Routine Dental Care in Matteson, IL

Why Should I Prioritize Routine Dental Visits?

  • Early Detection of Oral Issues: Routine dental visits detect oral issues early, allowing conservative treatment and preventing complications. Regular cleanings reduce cavities and gum disease risk.
  • Maintenance of Oral Hygiene: Regular dental visits maintain oral hygiene by cleaning teeth, providing guidance on oral care, and reducing dental risks.
  • Overall Health Monitoring: Routine dental visits detect oral signs of systemic health conditions, prompting timely referrals for further evaluation and management.

    Routine Dental Care

At Progressive Dental & Associates, we practice routine dental care in addition to performing restorations and addressing any other complex dental issues that you may have. In our Matteson dental office, we have found that by taking care of your teeth and planning for routine visits, you can prevent many common oral health problems like cavities, tooth infections, and gum disease. If you want to keep your adult teeth intact, it is critical that you continue to receive routine dental care, regardless of how old you are. Many adults skip their annual dental visit because they associate the need with children and the elderly. As a 60443 dentist, we know that the reason many adults lose teeth and have oral health problems with age is because they don’t have preventative care visits in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. You only have one set of teeth and we recommend that you do what you can to take care of them now, while you still can. If you haven’t visited the dentist in a while, we invite you to call (708) 980-0110 and schedule an appointment for your dental exam.

How Often Should I Visit The Dentist?

Many of our patients ask how frequently they should visit our office for routine dental care. This is an understandable question because most people associate going to the doctor or dentist with visits to stop discomfort or a perceived health issue. Visiting the dentist is a little different. We want to see you when you aren’t experiencing any problems so that we can keep it that way. Typically, when plaque and bacteria forms on the teeth, you won’t see an immediate problem but if it is left there, you can develop cavities and gum disease. Even small cavities won’t always cause immediate discomfort, making it difficult to judge the condition of your mouth at home. This is why you should visit our office twice a year. We can examine your teeth, identify issues while they are small, and treat them immediately.
Our team will also clean your teeth at this time so that gum disease and infections can be prevented entirely. If you are a diabetic, you may need to visit our office three or four times per year, depending on how often you have a diabetic episode. This is because uncontrolled blood sugar inhibits the white blood cells ability to fight off infection, including the bacteria in your mouth. At Progressive Dental & Associates, we treat diabetic patients and can coordinate your care with your medical physician as necessary. If you are otherwise healthy and not in any discomfort, we recommend that you have a dental exam and teeth cleaning at least once per year.

What Procedures Should I Schedule As Part Of My Routine Dental Care?

    Thorough Evaluation For Oral Health

During your visit, we conduct a visual inspection of every tooth to detect decay and assess your gum health. Additionally, we capture images of your mouth to identify hidden infections. If any issues are found, we discuss a suitable treatment plan. Otherwise, we proceed with a thorough teeth and gum cleaning, ensuring optimal oral hygiene.

    Targeted Procedures For Future Cavities

Depending on your age, we recommend specific preventive procedures to minimize the risk of cavities. Among these, fluoride treatment is commonly advised as it strengthens teeth, reducing cavity risk by up to 30%. If you are prone to cavities or reside in an area without fluoridated water (such as 60443), this simple and painless procedure can help maintain your oral health.

Protecting Young Smiles With Dental Sealants

For children, we often suggest dental sealants as an additional preventive measure. Applied to teeth with deep ridges, dental sealants act as a protective barrier, preventing plaque and bacteria from causing cavities. This procedure is highly effective in maintaining children’s oral health.

Relief From Tooth Sensitivity Through Bonding

In adults experiencing tooth sensitivity due to enamel loss, we offer a preventive approach to alleviate discomfort. By performing a bonding procedure, we apply a tooth-colored material to the teeth’s surface, shaping and hardening it with a special light. This creates a natural-looking outer layer that replaces lost enamel, reduces sensitivity, and often eliminates the need for future crowns. This procedure can be easily incorporated into routine dental care.

What Steps Should I Take At Home?

Routine dental care must also include good oral hygiene at home. At Progressive Dental & Associates, we recommend that you brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush for two minutes at a time, twice per day. You should purchase a new toothbrush every three months, brush with a fluoride toothpaste, and make a circular motion as you do.
Follow this up with flossing once a day, drinking water, and avoiding foods that are high in sugar or acid. This will help your teeth to remain strong and healthy in between dental visits.

For over 2 weeks, we have been going back and forth to the emergency room and finally was told it was a dental concern. Once we figure that out, we called several dentists for an emergency appointment because the medical doctor says it must be taken care within 2 days. After calling that morning, we were able to get an appointment that afternoon, immediately. The receptionist schedule the appointment, check my insurance while on the telephone. Her personality and customer care was exceptional. She offered sincere care for the problem and concern. When someone is experience a difficult time when a love one is sick. It can be overwhelming . It was so refreshing to have someone that actually cared. Now we are on the right track to recovery. Thank you soooo much. My family now has a new dentist. Signed, grateful

It was my second time, within a month, visiting this dental office. The establishment is very clean and well organized. The front desk staff (Sharon and Susan) are friendly and professional. My service, for both visits, was provided by the dental hygienists Ms. Kayla Scott. She was very professional, thorough and gentle. Well, since I’m in this for the long haul, to get back on track with my oral care after my previous dentist abruptly closed his practice in 2022, I’m glad I am very pleased with the service provided at Progressive Dental. I recommend this practice!
