    What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are ultra-thin porcelain dental veneers that are custom-made to fit over the front surface of teeth. With a thickness comparable to a contact lens, Lumineers require minimal to no tooth preparation and offer a highly translucent appearance that closely resembles natural tooth enamel.
They are designed to enhance the aesthetics of smiles by addressing concerns such as discoloration, misalignment, gaps, or chipped teeth. Lumineers are stain-resistant, durable, and provide a personalized and long-lasting solution for achieving a natural-looking and radiant smile.

    Lumineers for Cosmetic Purposes

Lumineers are one of the most popular solutions for replacing defective enamel. Lumineers, and the more well-known dental veneers, are used to replace enamel on teeth that have become stained or simply do not have the shine or the whiteness they once did. Lumineers, like the dental veneers, are an extremely thin strip of porcelain that is placed over your naturally occurring teeth. These ultra-thin strips of porcelain can augment your teeth and make them look like there is no damage, no stains, and that they are perfectly formed and shaped.
For this reason, Lumineers can be used to –

    Lumineers as Restorations

    Conservative approach

One significant advantage of using Lumineers as restorations is their conservative nature. Unlike traditional restorations such as dental crowns, Lumineers require minimal or no tooth preparation. This means that a significant amount of the natural tooth structure can be preserved, reducing the need for extensive enamel removal. This conservative approach helps maintain the overall health and strength of the teeth.

    Natural appearance

Lumineers as restorations provide a solution that not only restores the functionality of damaged teeth but also enhances their aesthetics. The thin porcelain shells of Lumineers are custom-made to fit over the affected teeth, covering imperfections and creating a natural-looking surface. The translucent nature of Lumineers closely mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel, ensuring a seamless and attractive smile.

    Durability and resistance

Lumineers used as restorations are made from high-quality, durable porcelain material. This material is known for its strength and resistance to staining, providing a long-lasting restoration solution. Lumineers are designed to withstand the forces of everyday biting and chewing, ensuring their durability and functionality over time. Their resistance to staining helps maintain the restored teeth’s brightness and aesthetics.

    Versatile

Lumineers offer versatility in addressing various dental concerns. Whether it’s repairing chips, cracks, or worn-down enamel, correcting tooth misalignment, or closing gaps between teeth, Lumineers can provide a comprehensive solution. Their customized design and ability to cover imperfections make them a suitable choice for a wide range of dental restoration needs.

    Lumineers vs. Dental Veneers

Patients often ask us why they should choose Lumineers over the more common dental veneers. The answer to this question is relatively simple. When you have dental veneers placed, there’s a need to scrape away a portion of your dental enamel to make way for the veneers. Essentially, what you are doing with dental veneers is removing the naturally occurring enamel so that they can lay flat without making your teeth appear overly large. The challenge with this process is that veneers permanently alter your teeth. Once the enamel is gone, you will always need a dental restoration in order to protect them.
Simultaneously, this process can be incredibly uncomfortable and that discomfort can last for days. Also, it is important to note that the more naturally occurring enamel you have, the better it is for the overall longevity of your teeth. When you decide to use Lumineers, over the more commonly used dental veneers, you are choosing a solution that is less invasive and typically allows for your enamel to remain intact. The Lumineers are as thin as a contact lens and this allows them to be placed without requiring your natural teeth to be permanently altered. This makes the process of receiving Lumineers more comfortable, faster, and reversible. As a result, we have found that our Matteson, IL patients tend to prefer this option.

    Lumineers are Reversible

A benefit of Lumineers is that they are completely reversible because there is no grinding down of healthy tooth enamel, and in most cases, your natural teeth are still intact. However, once you have Lumineers it is highly unlikely that you’re going to want to go back to your old teeth.
If you are the kind of person who wants a beautiful smile, the Hollywood smile, then you need to consider Lumineers to replace your stained, damage, cracked, chipped or otherwise imperfect teeth.
The process is quick, the results are stunning, and the convenience factor is the most important aspect when it comes to choosing Lumineers over alternative solutions.

The Process of Receiving Lumineers from Progressive Dental & Associates

    Initial consultation and measurements

Once you have decided to improve your smile with Lumineers, the first step is to visit our 60443 office for an initial consultation. During this visit, impressions of your upper and lower teeth will be taken, along with measurements. These impressions and measurements are crucial in creating customized Lumineers that fit perfectly and look natural.

    Creation of Lumineers

The information collected during the initial consultation is sent to the Lumineers laboratory along with photographs and other records. The laboratory creates the Lumineers on-site using your specific measurements. This ensures that the Lumineers are tailored to your teeth, providing a precise and personalized fit.

    No shots or enamel removal

Unlike traditional veneers, the process of getting Lumineers does not require any shots or drilling to remove enamel from your teeth. This means that the procedure is minimally invasive and preserves your natural tooth structure. Additionally, there is no need to wear temporary acrylic restorations, eliminating any potential aesthetic concerns during the process.

    Second appointment and final placement

The second appointment at our Matteson office marks the final step of the Lumineers procedure. During this visit, the Lumineers will be fitted and bonded into place on your teeth. We will ensure that the color palette and other factors are considered to achieve the desired aesthetic outcome. Once the Lumineers are bonded, you will have your new smile that looks exactly the way you want it to.

Once we figure that out, we called several dentists for an emergency appointment because the medical doctor says it must be taken care within 2 days. It was my second time, within a month, visiting this dental office. The establishment is very clean and well organized. The front desk staff (Sharon and Susan) are friendly and professional. My service, for both visits, was provided by the dental hygienists Ms. Kayla Scott. She was very professional, thorough and gentle. Well, since I’m in this for the long haul, to get back on track with my oral care after my previous dentist abruptly closed his practice in 2022, I’m glad I am very pleased with the service provided at Progressive Dental. I recommend this practice!
